Two years ago Hurricane Katrina dealt the Gulf Coast an
unprecedented hand of destruction. Today the spirit of Coast
residents remains as strong as ever as the recovery efforts
continue. While the appearance may have changed, the people
are what make the area so special and the progress proves the
people are building the Coast back better than ever
before.
All of South Mississippi is enjoying a robust economic
recovery. The Governor's Two Year Report states that
Mississippi is experiencing a significant expansion of the
state's economic infrastructure. Unemployment rates continue
to drop, sales tax revenues are setting records in several
municipalities and small businesses are returning. With
employment levels now above pre-Katrina levels, Mississippi's
economic recovery is in full swing. (Read the full report.)
This anniversary date of Hurricane Katrina marks a new
